FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about studying MBBS in Russia.

Is MBBS from Russia valid in India?

Yes! Degrees from NMC-listed Russian universities are fully valid in India. Graduates must pass the NEXT (formerly FMGE) screening exam to practice medicine in India. Our partner universities have excellent NEXT pass rates.

Is NEET required to study MBBS in Russia?

Russian universities themselves do not require NEET — a student without NEET can still obtain admission at a few select universities. However, for Indian citizens, NEET qualification is mandatory under NMC rules (2021 onwards) to register and practise medicine in India after graduation. This means a non-NEET Indian student can study MBBS in Russia, but will not be able to appear for the FMGE/NEXT exam or work as a doctor in India. Students from other countries should check their own regulatory requirements.

What is the total cost of studying MBBS in Russia?

Total annual cost including tuition ($3,000–$8,000), hostel ($800–$1,500), food and living ($1,200–$2,000) comes to approximately $5,000–$12,000 per year depending on the university and city. The 6-year total is typically $30,000–$65,000 — far less than private Indian colleges.

Is the medium of instruction English?

Yes, all our partner universities offer dedicated English-medium MBBS programs for international students. You do not need to know Russian to get admitted. However, basic Russian language is taught in the first year to help you communicate with patients during clinical practice.

How long is the MBBS program in Russia?

The MBBS (MD) program in Russia is 6 years — the same as in India. This includes 5 years of academic study and 1 year of clinical internship. Some universities offer it as 5+1 or 6 years inclusive of internship.

What documents do I need to apply?

Required documents include: valid passport (6+ months validity), 10th and 12th marksheets/certificates, NEET scorecard (for Indian students), medical fitness certificate, passport-sized photos, and a bank statement. We guide you through each document step by step.

Is Indian food available in Russia?

Yes! Major Russian cities with medical universities have Indian restaurants and grocery stores. Indian student associations in almost every university organize food events. Many hostels also have self-cooking facilities where students prepare their own meals.

How does MedRus Connect charge for its services?

Our initial counseling is completely free. We charge a transparent, one-time service fee for the full admission and visa processing service. There are no hidden charges — everything is explained clearly before you commit. Contact us for the current fee structure.

When is the admission intake?

Russian medical universities officially run two intakes:

  • September–October intake (Main): Applications typically open in January, and the academic session begins in September–October. Most universities close admissions by late July or early August.
  • February–March intake (Limited): A smaller secondary intake offered by select universities. Applications open around September–October and close in early January.

Because Russian student visas take 30–45 days to process and invitation letters are issued 1–2 months in advance, we recommend starting your application at least 3–4 months before your intended intake. For the September intake, applying by May–June is ideal.

Is Russia safe for international students?

Russian university cities like Kazan, Volgograd, Kursk, and Novosibirsk are generally safe and student-friendly. Large Indian communities exist in most cities. Universities have security and student welfare offices. Thousands of Indian students study in Russia without any safety issues.
